Territorial Cooperation

The Territorial Cooperation Programmes (formerly known as INTERREG) are designed to strengthen economic and social cohesion in the European Union by promoting cross-border (IVA), transnational (IVB) and interregional (IVC) co-operation.

Scotland is eligible for six mainstream Programmes:

Cumulatively these programmes are worth more than €1.7 Billion over seven years. In addition there are two network programmes, ESPON and URBACT, which apply EU-wide.

Projects typically focus on regional innovation, sustainable communities, transport and environmental initiatives. Joint product and systems development is a key feature of the projects, as is exchanging best-practice concepts.

These funds are often used as a strategic tool to profile regions at EU level as well as develop new ways of working with regions and sectors across Europe.
