Scotland Europa - Environment and Energy

Environment and Energy

Environment and Energy regulations, including those that concern climate change, remain key priorities inthe European Union policy agenda.

The EU continues to work towards strengthening energy security while protecting the environment. It also demonstrates global leadership in efforts both to reduce global warming and to adapt to the impacts of a changing climate.

The importance of ensuring full implementation of ambitious EU targets and goals in these areas takes on further resonance in the current economic climate, as the EU strives to ensure economic recovery doesn’t take place at the expense of green initiatives.

Given its geographical and economic profile, Scotland is well placed to contribute to EU strategies on environment, energy and climate change.

At Scotland Europa, we aim to maximise the potential of Scotland’s influence at EU-level by providing our members with the necessary knowledge and insight to facilitate their engagement, and by profiling their experience to the Brussels audience.

Our Environment and Energy policy work focuses on the following EU initiatives:

  • Energy generation and supply including renewables and new technologies;
  • Energy efficiency;
  • Mitigation and adaptation to climate change, including international negotiations;
  • Air, water and soil quality, including industrial emissions and pesticide use;
  • Sustainable industrial policy, including consumption and production and
  • Natural resources and biodiversity.

In addition, we support engagement invarious European funding opportunities in this field for Scottish organisations.
